First Name: Tommy
Last Name: Van Cleef
Niced Up Motorsports
Tommy started racing in 1993 at the age of 7 in the World Karting
Association. During his time in the WKA, he was awarded 20+ Poles
nationally, he won 6 National Championships in the Gold Cup Series, and he professionally campaigned Karts up until 2006 winning countless local level, regional, and national series races and championships.
While Tommy had a long and successful Go Karting career, he also branched off into other forms of motorsports. After building up a successful repertoire of awards and accomplishments in karting, in 2003, Tommy was Invite to the Skip Barber Racing Scholarship Shootout where he competed for a $100,000 scholarship in the Skip Barber racing series.
In 2004, Tommy started racing in the Sports Car Club of America all throughout the South East. In his first race with SCCA, Tommy competed at the world renown Daytona International Speedway. He drove a 2003 Toyota Celica GT in the Show Room Stock C (ssc) class in a 2 hour Enduro, and placed first in class. To this day, he continues to compete in SCCA regional races whenever and wherever possible.
In 2007, Tommy was Invited to work at the BMW Performance Driving
School. Since 2007, he has become an Internationally certified BMW
Driving Instructor, leading and teaching everything from Teen Driving
Schools to ///M Performance Driving Schools. During his time at the
BMW Performance Center, he enhanced his drifting skills and an attachment to the sport of Drifting became a passion.
In 2010, he received a ride for a local shop in grassroots drift
events, and successfully placed the car at the top. In 2011 Tommy made a strong effort to begin building and competing in a personally owned and operated drift car, a 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo.
2011 allowed for the newly born team, Van Cleef Motorsports, to
showcase the car at several Drifting exhibitions, growing the teams
popularity and testing for the 2012 season. Tommy competed in the
Streetwise Drift G.A.C.S. Round 2 in Charlotte, NC and placed 1st.
In 2012, Tommy drove a full drift season with Streetwise Drifts GACS
and the Formula Drift East Coast ProAm Championship series, traveling
from South Florida to Virginia. 2012 proved to be an amazing rookie
year in drifting with victory and several top ten finishes.
In 2013 Van Cleef Motorsports started the season with a win at the
late CFRC. Unfortunately the win brought an end to the 7M-GTE power
plant. Immediately following the opening win,
the Supra’s engine was changed to a 1JZ-GTE in order to compete for the remainder of the season. By the end of 2013, the 1JZ was tweaked up to 450HP, 400 lbft. of torque.
2013 was filled with close battles against the east coast’s
greatest drivers but Tommy still ended the season with a 5th place
finish overall. Van Cleef Motorsports has formed some new exciting relationships for 2014 and fans can expect to see a very healthy 2JZ power plant under the hood of the new Supra chassis.
